Dream Island Series on ITV Wales

14th September 2012

Owen playing the part of Ronald Lockley

I’d hate to call this a reality show. True, there are familiar elements such as building restoration, including a Grade II listed cottage, the dedication of volunteers and the acquisition of a lighthouse. But it’s also a wildlife documentary – yes there are puffins as you’d expect, but also the extraordinary Manx shearwaters. There’s more, as the story of Ronald Lockley unfolds, his dream and struggle of farming and raising a family on Skokholm between the wars and setting up Britain’s first bird observatory.

Any one of these is a subject in its own right but here they come together on just a few hectares off the coast Pembrokeshire. I’ve been involved with the island for almost 25 years and I’ve always known there is a good story here. It’s a pity that this is only available in the ITV Wales area, and I hope that at some point it will be shown nationally.
However, all six episodes are now available on Vimeo so you don’t have to be in the UK to watch them.
