Skokholm Lighthouse Update

20th May 2012

The purchase of the lighthouse means the Trust now owns Skokholm in its entirety, so it can be fully managed for the benefit of wildlife. The island, together with neighbouring Skomer and the surrounding sea is one of just a handful of UK marine nature reserves.
The lighthouse is in need of work, which will be done by a mixture of professionals and dedicated and experienced volunteers. The purchase and upkeep of a lighthouse was in many ways the last thing a wildlife trust needs, but given the situation in this location it had to be. I’ll add more in the coming months.
